Pastry Cook

We're looking for a permanent or seasonal (through December 2026) part-time Pastry Cook at our micro-bakery in Fairfax City, VA. We specialize in classic Italian pastry using premium ingredients and traditional techniques with a mix of pre-order, catering, and retail clients.

We're very proud to make all of our products in-house, where every bake is by hand and from scratch.

Job Description: 

Our Pastry Cook will work collaboratively with the Pastry Sous Chef to execute our weekly production schedule. This position is part time 3 – 4 days a week starting immediately, ideal for a student looking for an externship or professional experience through the end of the fall / winter 2026 term or for a current professional looking for additional hours.

Because of our shop model, our production schedule changes weekly based on our orders. Our Pastry Cook must be comfortable learning a roster of recipes and shifting priorities and tasks week to week.

The Pastry Cook will:

  • Prepare ingredients for baking, including weighing and portioning accurately.
  • Bake products according to recipes, quality standards, and food safety best-practices.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and PARs of our cookie, cannoli, and pastry menus.
  • Wash and disinfect kitchen area, floors, tables, tools, knives, and equipment daily.
  • Be able to stand for prolonged periods of time or an entire work shift.
  • Be able to move or lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Provide delivery support during busy wedding seasons as needed.

You'll be a Great Fit if You:

  • Have at least 1+ years of previous professional baking or pastry experience (formal education/training applies);
  • Know your way around pastry fundamentals, and have specific experience with drop, rolled, and piped cookies, creams, cakes, and doughs;
  • Are a quick and curious learner, and you are able to replicate processes with ease;
  • Work efficiently and accurately with little supervision;
  • Have strong attention to detail and don't miss the small things;
  • Thrive being part of a close-knit, collaborative, and creative small team;
  • Can effectively plan and prioritize your own to-do lists across multiple products and timelines;

Nuts & Bolts:

  • $17 - 18 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • $100/month stipend for healthcare reimbursement available.
  • Paid sick leave accrual.
  • General shifts are daytime Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 8a – 3p. Saturdays are mandatory (9a – 2p) but other dates are flexible. Shifts include a paid 30-minute lunch break.
