We're looking for a part-time Pastry Assistant at our micro-bakery in Fairfax City, VA. We specialize in classic Italian pastry using premium ingredients and traditional techniques with a mix of pre-order, catering, and retail clients.

We're very proud to make all of our products in-house, where every bake is by hand and from scratch.

Job Description: 

Our Pastry Assistant will work collaboratively as part of a small team to execute weekly production and order fulfillment.

The salary range is $18 - $19 per hour depending on the candidate's qualifications. This is a part-time position with mandatory Saturdays and a second day of the candidate's choosing. A third day may be added depending on performance. Additional hours may be available during busy seasons (peak spring/fall wedding season, holidays).

The Pastry Assistant will: 

  • Prepare and bag pre-orders for pick-up on Saturdays with timeliness and accuracy.
  • Finish and bake off fresh product for fulfilling pre-orders. 
  • Prepare ingredients for baking, including weighing and portioning accurately.
  • Bake products according to recipes, quality standards, and food safety best-
  • Provide customer-facing support during pop-ups, like filling cannoli or running register.
  • Wash and disinfect kitchen area, floors, tables, tools, knives, and equipment daily.
  • Be able to stand for prolonged periods of time or an entire work shift.
  • Be able to move or lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

You'll be a Great Fit if You:

  • Have at least 1-2 years of previous professional or hobby baking/pastry experience;
  • Enjoy being a friendly face and providing quality interactions with customers and clients;
  • Know your way around pastry fundamentals, and have specific experience with drop, rolled, and piped cookies, creams, and doughs;
  • Are a quick and curious learner, and you are able to replicate processes with ease;
  • Work efficiently and accurately with little supervision;
  • Have strong attention to detail and don't miss the small things;
  • Thrive being part of a close-knit, collaborative, and creative small team;
  • Can effectively manage your time to complete the day's tasks.
  • Enjoy everything from Celine Dion to Fall Out Boy as our kitchen jams.

Our kitchen is a co-op space shared with two other all-female teams. We value respect, open communication, and cleanliness in our shared workspace and equipment.

Nuts & Bolts:

  • $18 - $19 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • Saturdays mandatory from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Second/third shift is open for Candidate's choosing. Weekday shifts are from 7:00AM - 2:30PM or 8:00AM - 3:30PM.
